The Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS) is the minimum requirement to teach post-16s and adults in England and Wales. With this formal qualification you will develop your teaching skills and knowledge, and will be qualified to apply for jobs within the lifelong learning sector.
On completing this course you will receive the Level Three Aim Award in Education and Training.
Who is this online course suitable for?
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to enter into post-16 adult teaching or training, regardless of level of experience, and who does not already possess a formal teaching qualification.
It is also an excellent opportunity for anyone who has already been employed in adult learning, workplace-based training or further education and wants to consolidate their skills and knowledge with a recognised accreditation.
What does the course cover?
The Award in Education and Training takes place over ten weeks, and is designed to give you a thorough understanding of the role and responsibilities of a teacher within a classroom setting. Over the ten weeks, you will cover three units:
- Unit 1: Roles and responsibilities of a teacher
- Unit 2: Understanding and using inclusive learning
- Unit 3: Understanding assessment
You will complete three written assignments, produce lesson plans, observe peers and complete a practical teaching assignment. By the end of the course you will understand how to communicate with and motivate your students, understand their learning styles, choose appropriate teaching methods and assess their progress.
How does this online course work?
The course will take place over ten weeks, with a single hour-long tutorial online every Wednesday from 11am to 12pm. You can, however, work through the materials at a faster pace if this suits you better.
You will be assigned a tutor who will guide you through the course, and a password to access the course materials. In order to complete the course you will also need to have access to a group of learners to record yourself teaching as evidence of your skills as a facilitator.
Tutorials are non-compulsory but we'd encourage you to attend as many as you can. You will have the opportunity to communicate with your tutor and other students if you wish, either with a microphone or using the web chat. If you’re unable to attend a tutorial, they can also be watched as a recording at your leisure.
To take part in the online tutorials you will require access to a computer with an internet connection and an audio output to listen to the tutor.
You will need to demonstrate English at level two before starting the course. The trainer will contact you during the booking process to confirm your suitability. If you do not have an English qualification then you can complete a short assessment before the course.
If you have any particular requirements then please call 0116 2575001 to discuss them.
