Who is this course suitable for?
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to enter into post-16 adult teaching or training, regardless of level of experience, and who does not already possess a formal teaching qualification.
It is also an excellent opportunity for anyone who has already been employed in adult learning, workplace-based training or further education and wants to consolidate their skills and knowledge with a recognised accreditation.
What does the course cover?
The Award in Education and Training takes place over six weeks, and is designed to give you a thorough understanding of the role and responsibilities of a teacher within a classroom setting. Over the six weeks, you will cover three units:
- Unit 1: Roles and responsibilities of a teacher
- Unit 2: Understanding and using inclusive learning
- Unit 3: Understanding assessment
You will complete three written assignments, produce lesson plans, observe peers and complete a practical teaching assignment. By the end of the course you will understand how to communicate with and motivate your students, understand their learning styles, choose appropriate teaching methods and assess their progress.
How does the course work?
The course takes place over six weeks, with one full day of face-to-face training each week at Voluntary Action LeicesterShire’s office in Leicester city centre.
You will be required to attend every session for the full day, which runs from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Lunch is not provided, but refreshments will be available throughout the day.
