Today 4 million children in Britain are living in poverty, this is one of the highest rates in the industrialised world. Poverty can have an enormous impact on a child's life, their family and the rest of society. It often creates problems in education and employment as well as mental and physical health.
Both Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council consider child poverty and protecting vulnerable children to be key priorities. But ending child poverty can only really be tackled by the voluntary and public sector working in partnership to develop improved services.
What is Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) doing?
VAL has formed the Children, Young People and Families Forum for Leicester and Leicestershire. This has been developed to provide opportunities to come together to share timely information, encourage wider engagement with the local authorities and develop greater partnership approaches and solutions for the needs of local children, young people and families.
