The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have launched a consultation on the Civil Society Strategy, designed to shape how the government works with the charitable sector over the next ten years across all government departments.

The consultation has four strands:

  1. Civil SocietyWhat civil society is, how it is working well and what needs to change to strengthen it
  2. PeopleHow more people could take action on issues that matter to them
  3. Partnership - The best ways to work across different sectors to make a better society
  4. PlaceHow we empower local people to improve the places they live and work

If the ambition of this strategy is realised, it has the potential of reforming commissioning and funding practices across the public sector to be more coherent, working towards similar objectives with the charitable sector.

For this reason, Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) believes it is imperative that the local VCSE sector in Leicester and Leicestershire gets its voice heard in this consultation.

Have your say

The deadline for responding to the consultation is 9:00am 22 May. VAL will be working to gather the views of the wider VCSE sector to respond through a number of small sessions, however we encourage all within the sector to send in their own individual responses.
