Emergency Budget Action Meeting

On 8 September, we will discuss what changes resulting from the new budget and the new government concern groups, and what we can do to respond to these changes.

Who is the event for?

• Voluntary groups who are concerned about what changes and cuts will mean for the people they help and their missions
• Voluntary groups who believe that we can do something to influence how cuts impact on local people
• Voluntary groups who are willing to work with others to find solutions to the challenges we now face

In response to approaches from some councillors, a small number of places have also been set a side for elected members.

What is the Purpose of this Event?

The event is designed to enable voluntary groups to understand and work together to respond to spending cuts and other recent changes.

At this event, we want to work with groups to:

• Review what has changed/what changes and cuts are coming
• Get a clear idea of the most important impacts of the changes on people they help
• Decide what the most important changes they need to influence or respond to are
• Find opportunities to work with other groups to influence and respond to what is happening

What happens after 8 September?

We hope that on the 8 September some organisations will decide to work with each other to influence how cuts are made, and to develop solutions to the problems they've identified.

So after the 8 September, VAL will support organisations that want to work together on an opportunity or problem they have identified. There will be

• Follow-up meetings in September for groups of organisations who want to work together on an issue
• Policy and research work to support these groups' work on an issue
• VAL will be briefing and working with councillors and officers to ensure they are aware of the sector's concerns and the work that is being done to find solutions
