Leicestershire and Leicester Multi Area Agreement
A Multi Area Agreement (MAA) is a cross boundary agreement that contains elements of and supports work contained in theLocal Area Agreements of those areas sharing that boundary.
Multi Area Agreements complement the Local Area Agreements, they bring together key players and provide flexible ways to tackle issues that are better addressed in partnership.
The MAA has a clear focus on economic development. The agreement’s aim is to inspire businesses, residents and investors in our City, Market Towns and rural areas. It provides the opportunity for the Voluntary and Community Sector, City, County and District Councils and other partners, notably emda, the Learning and Skills Council, JobCentre Plus and the three local universities, to work together on this very important agenda and to build a strong relationship between local, regional and central government and its agencies.

The Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) identifies local priorities bringing together the three elements of sustainability – economic, social and environmental.
The final draft of the SCS was approved by the Leicestershire Together Board at it’s meeting on 10th March, and by Leicestershire County Council, as the accountable body in May 2008. The SCS sets out the priority outcomes for Leicestershire between 2008 and 2013.
Leicestershire Local Area Agreement
Local Area Agreements (LAA) were introduced by central government in 2005. They are written agreementswhich set out how public, voluntary and private sector bodies within an area will work together to improve the quality of life for residents over a three year period.
Leicestershire’s Sustainable Community Strategy which covers a slightly longer period up to 2013.
LAA2 is made up of a set of 35 high level targets drawn from the National Indicator Set (NIS), 16 statutory education and early years targets prescribed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and 10 locally determined targets.
