National and Regional Context

Regional Context

The Regional agencies (emda, GOEM) are currently regarded as key agencies in the devolution of economic policy, resources, support and EU programmes to the East Midlands region.

An outcome of this is to permit the emergence of regional economic policies geared to regional economic conditions and designed to meet regional objectives.

However, at the same time these regional policies need to be consistent with national policy objectives and national policy constraints.

Regional interpretation and steer of national policy sets the agenda and scope for much of the work of sub-regional policy mechanisms.

National and EU Context

The UK Government, through Parliament, the Lords and it's Departments  proposes, drafts and ultimately affirms the national policy position.

Increasingly, national policy is delivered with a local understanding.

EU policy can have far reaching implications for UK policy and legislation and resources.
