The Borough Council, has reviewed all of its VCS funding arrangements, and made a decision to focus these resources in areas and work streams, where we feel we can make the most impact. It is important to stress that HBBC has not made any cuts to VCS funding, but in some cases re-directed funding.

Specifically, the authority has re-directed some VCS funding to support the sustainability of Community Action Hinckley and Bosworth, and in particular the community development work, they deliver, on our behalf, through our community houses. We have seen some great successes through this model of working, in the engagement of the local community, and their involvement in both helping to shape and deliver programmes of activity - real community ownership/Big Society in practice. Work we are happy to engage you with, and/or share this approach.

Inevitably this has resulted in some changes to the arrangements for the delivery of VAL services at the District level, which are outlined below:

  • Groups will still be able to access support provided centrally from VAL, including one-to-one support which will be prioritised based on priorities agreed with Leicestershire County Council.
  • Groups can continue to receive e-briefings, news and event information and continue to attend if registered on VAL database.
  • VAL will continue to offer a varied training programming, details of which will always be available on its website www.valonline.org.uk
  • VAL will continue to promote volunteering via the Do-It website and work with local Volunteer Involving Organisations.
  • Volunteer drop-ins are likely to move towards workshop based sessions for specific groups or based on the level of interest. More information will be available about this shortly.
  • VAL will endeavour to participate in partnership meetings which align to priorities agreed with Leicestershire County Council
  • VAL will not be in a position to continue to support and develop the VOICE Forum at this stage but may be able to attend where meetings link in with other priorities.

In addition CAHB will continue to maintain its links with local VCS organisations, and help in promoting and sign posting individuals/groups to the range of provision available to the sector.
