VAL's operational and strategic lead for older people county priority met with Simon Lawrence, Leicestershire County Council (LCC) Programme Director for the Community Budget Programme on 11 July to discuss the starting point for the Ageing Well Review strategy work.
The above meeting enabled VAL to start a process of research with the sector about how LCC, national government and national charity policy and strategies influencing the work of front line groups in their strategic planning.
The findings of this research has now been compiled into a report which has been presented to the Ageing Well Review Steering Group on 14 September. VAL was also given the opportunity to deliver a presentation at the steering group about the report and a way forward.
The way forward included ideas around intergenerational volunteering and national practices around promoting independence, early intervention and prevention and preventing old age. Noting that these practices are delivered not only by older people groups, but also by organisations that provide a generic service around a specialism, such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
