Consultations on the City and County budgets

Consultations on the City and County budgets close on 31 January. VAL has been helping VCS groups to respond to the consultations, as well as providing advice to groups who have received notice of funding cuts.

25 organisations, together with VAL, submitted a joint response to the City Council's budget proposals. Read summary of the final submission or the full response.

Due to the sparse detail contained in the County Budget proposals, groups were unable to respond to specific proposals. VAL has therefore submitted an initial response.

VCS groups have raised similar concerns with us for both the City and County budgets, including an apparent removal of some funding preventative services for young people, and disproportionate cuts to the VCS providing Adult Social Care.

What you can do

  • Join our Stand Up for Communities campaign, which asks Councils to examine the impacts of spending cuts before making budget decisions, and asks that Councils set out what they will do for those service users hardest hit by cuts. Find out how to get involved
  • VAL will be putting in further responses to the County Council's proposals through specific consultations with Children and Young People and providers of Supported Living services.

Get support for your group

VAL's Group Support team have been working closely with a number of organisations who have received notice of cuts to their funding, to provide advice and prepare individual responses to the Council.

The Group Support team are able to work with VCS groups in these cases and help organisations respond to the City Council, to highlight the effects of cuts to particular services and the way in which vulnerable individuals are likely to be affected. The team are also able to advise on whether cuts are compliant with the procedures set out in the National Compact, and the process for challenging breaches of the Compact.
