Key changes to Leicester City Budgets - Have your say at VAL's Consultation Event on 17 January

Leicester City Council have now published their budget proposals for the next three years. As part of the Stand up for Communities campaign, Voluntary Action LeicesterShire is holding a series of workshop sessions to feed into the setting of spending priorities for both the City and the County and we want to hear YOUR views.

Leicestershire County Council will be formally publishing their Budget on January 17 and running a consultation from the 17 until 31 January. VAL will produce a briefing as soon as details become available.

Torch Relay Funding Briefing

Do you know of a community group that would like to deliver a community project or celebration event this summer to support the torch relay or 2012 games?

The Regional Equality and Diversity Partnership (REDP): Human Rights and Equalities Seminars

REDP will be holding a series of briefing seminars for the Voluntary and Community Sector during January and February 2012 on Human Rights and its relationship to equalities.

New Yoga class at VAL

A new Iyengar yoga class has been added from 10 January in response to demand. Drop in classes take place on Tuesdays 5.30pm and Thursdays 12.30pm at VAL, £5 per class.

WISE Lunch time networking event

Communities in Partnership job opportunities

Communities in Partnership hosts the Leicestershire & Rutland LINks, the independent Local Involvement Networks. These networks bring together people, organisations and community groups who want to influence how Health and Social Care services are run.

Leicestershire Leicester and Rutland Headway (Headway Leicester) is a specialist voluntary organisation providing support and services locally to adults with an acquired or traumatic brain injury. The causes of such injuries are numerous but the effect is often catastrophic and devastating.

Project Administrator - Akwaaba Ayeh Mental Health Advocacy Project

Hours: Time limited for 12 months Working 37 Hours per week
Salary: £14,000 per annum

Akwaaba Ayeh Advocacy Project provides advice, support and information to predominantly African, African Caribbean and Asian people who are experiencing mental health difficulties and their Carers.

Key Changes to the Big Lottery Fund's Reaching Communities Buildings Fund

The Big Lottery has made several changes to the eligibility of its Reaching Communities buildings fund.

Melton Borough Council - Home Volunteering Support Service Leicestershire Sure Start Programme

Deadline for applications: 27 January 2012 12pm

Melton Borough Council wants to procure a service that complements their wider Children's Centre programme and contributes to improve outcomes for families with children aged 0-5 years in the Borough of Melton. The successful provider will be expected to work as part of the wider Children's Centre delivery team.

Law changes to enable VCS to join credit unions

VCS groups will be able to join a credit union from 8 January under changes made to the Credit Unions Act 1979.

East Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group Consultation

East Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group is currently consulting on their Commissioning Strategy. A questionnaire can be completed online by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ELRSS This will be supplemented with meetings with key stakeholders to ensure as many communities, individuals and groups across the area are involved in the development of the Commissioning Strategy as possible.

Big Lottery Fund launches nationwide discussion

The Big Lottery Fund has launched a nationwide discussion asking voluntary sector and social enterprise managers, working in frontline, infrastructure support and development organisations, how they think funding should be used to develop support for the VCS and social enterprises.

Representative Needed - Leicester City Adult Safeguarding Board

A representative for the voluntary sector is urgently sought to sit on the Leicester City Adult Safeguarding Board. Representatives report back to the Voluntary Sector Care Providers Forum and enable the view of voluntary sector care providers to be taken into account in strategic safeguarding decisions and decision making.

Primary care trusts’ last funding announced

The Department of Health has announced NHS budgets for next year, the last funding that primary care trusts will receive before their proposed abolition. Both our local primary care trusts have received an increase in funding for 2012/13 and £2.5 million has been specifically allocated for further investment in helping patients recover after hospital treatment. VAL is establishing how much of this additional investment is being tendered out and we will keep you informed of any developments or opportunities to tender for services.
