Consultation on Leicestershire County Council Budget - Ends 31 January

Leicestershire County Council have released their budget proposals for the coming financial year and opened a short consultation on their plans - which closes on 31 January.

Leicester City Council budget consultation update

Leicester City Council have published their budget proposals for the next three years, and are consulting on them until 31 January. Last week VAL held a series of workshop sessions to help VCS groups feed in their concerns.

The issues raised and views expressed will form part of VAL's joint response to the consultation which we will post on our website as soon as possible after the closing date of 31 January.

Proposed EDL march

The English Defence League (EDL) have notified police of their intention to march in Leicester city centre on 4 February 2012. VAL, like many other organisations, do not welcome public protests of this type which target a specific racial minority community and can be damaging to community relations.

Quality Assurance

The aim of this session is to provide you with an overview of the different types of quality assurance systems available and to show how putting these in place can improve performance, increase efficiency and improve effectiveness.

Community Fundraising Course

Date: January 31 to 25 February
Location: Voluntary Action LeicesterShire

Would you like to become a fundraiser for your community? Would you like to develop your skills in fundraising or just find out what it's all about? VAL are running a community fundraising course for people with little or no knowledge of fundraising.

Level 2 Safeguarding Training 2 sessions available - book now

Level 2 Safeguarding Training Sessions are now available for the staff and volunteers of private and voluntary organisations working with children, young people and families in Leicestershire and Rutland.

Befriending Scheme Co-ordinator

Salary: £25,000 (£10,807 pro rata)
Terms: Temporary (6 months, initially)
Hours: Part time 16 hours per week
Application deadline: 5pm on Friday 3 February 2012

The post holder will set-up and co-ordinate the delivery of Braunstone Over 60's Befriending Scheme. Deliver the scheme through active recruitment and training of Volunteer Befrienders and promoting the scheme to recruit over 60's clients.

Hours: 37 hours per week

Second window of new £20m plus grant fund to encourage social action is now open

The Social Action Fund is a new grant fund of over £20 million, managed on behalf of the Office for Civil Society. The Fund's second window opened on 9 January 2012 and will close at noon on 3 February 2012.
