Edna Smith is crowned Hidden Hero of the Year 2010
Volunteer for Home-Start and grandmother of 10, Edna scooped the winners prize at an award ceremony held at VAL on Wednesday 14 July.
The event was the climax of a month of voting between the 5 finalists and was extremely close. Nominees for the award were honoured before an emotional video was shown telling the stories of the top 5 who were up for the title.
Edna was tearful as she collected her award and bouquet of flowers from VAL Chief Executive, Kevan Liles. Edna said: "I was absolutely flabbergasted to win because when I saw what all the others do it made me think what I do is absolute peanuts but I love what I do."
