Communicating Climate Change - a free half day training course that will present the latest research on public attitudes and behaviour towards climate change and the environment, and techniques for climate change communications.
Climate change is an area of growing concern and the UK has demonstrated its commitment both to climate change mitigation (e.g. the Climate Change Act 2008 and the Low Carbon Transition Plan), and climate change adaptation (‘Adapting to Climate Change in England: a framework for action' 2008, and NI 188 Adapting to Climate change performance indicator).
As a key stakeholder in enabling the city of Leicester to address the complex challenges emerging from climate change, you are invited to attend a half day training course.
Using short slideshow presentations, the course starts with a summary of the findings of existing academic research into climate change communication. The course challenges many of the assumptions about existing approaches to motivating climate action, identifying those that may be ineffective or even counterproductive.
Participants explore the strategies that people adopt to avoid behavioural change and how to overcome these objections. Small groups then critically evaluate a wide range of existing communication materials. The day concludes with a look at methods for appealing to different audiences with different aspirations.
If you would like to attend, please reply by email to Neville.stork@leicester.gov.uk or contact the Environmental Sustainability Team on (0116) 252 6794.
