The length of grant depends on the proposed activity:

  • Projects involving developing a charitable organisation or an innovative programme which meets the Foundation's aims may be supported for up to six years. In these circumstances, grants are made for up to three years, and the project is then reviewed before any further funding is allocated
  • Normal projects can be supported for up to three years

Extended Description:
The Paul Hamlyn Foundation Open Grants Scheme aims to support charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK in carrying out projects and activities that help people to realise their potential and have a better quality of life.

The Open Grants Scheme is split into three separate categories:

  1. Education and Learning - Supports innovative ways of increasing people's learning. The Foundation can fund the development, implementation and dissemination of new ideas to increase learning by people of all ages
  2. The Arts - Supports innovative ways of increasing people's enjoyment, experience and involvement in the arts.
  3. Social Justice - This section aims to help integrate marginalised individuals and communities. The Foundation sees integration as a two-way process in which society at large and specific communities adapt, understand and benefit. The scheme has a specific focus on arts and learning activities for younger people up to the age of thirty.

These activities should achieve the following outcomes:

  • Enable marginalised young people to have their voices heard
  • Ensure marginalised young people can participate fully in society
  • Build strong relationships within their communities and with other communities
  • Foster respect for, and understanding of, the differences between communities
