Total Place: Leicester City and Leicestershire County

This Community and Local Government backed programme will look at public spending and local leadership.

The project will identify how local and central public agencies can work together more effectively to deliver better value for money and use this unique opportunity to radically reshape and improve the quality of life for their communities.

The impact of the economic downturn means all of the public sector needs to find radical new solutions to not only deliver better value for money, but also better local services more tailored to local needs.

Thirteen pilot areas from around England have been chosen to pilot Total Place including Leicestershire and Leicester.

Total Place is a new initiative that looks at how a ‘whole area’ approach to public services can lead to better services at less cost. It seeks to identify and avoid overlap and duplication between organisations – delivering a step change in both service improvement and efficiency at the local level, as well as across Whitehall.

Aims of Total Place

  • Make changes to services that can improve the lives of local residents and deliver better value?
  • Deliver earlysavings to validate the work?
  • Develop a body of knowledge and learning about how more effective cross-agency working can deliver the above.
  • Each place will focus on a key theme that is particularly important locally. Leicestershire and Leicester are looking at how Drug and Alcohol Awareness services are delivered, and in addition, Leicestershire will also assessing Access to local services.
