Have your say on spending cuts - don't miss out

VAL is researching community groups views on recent and potential future spending cuts. This research has been commissioned by City and County Council authorities and the Primary Care Trust. The findings will inform the budget setting for the next financial year. Even if your group has not experienced cuts we still need to hear from you.

Venue: Leicester College, Freeman’s Park Campus

This course will introduce you to some of the skills required to volunteer effectively and is specifically for those people looking to develop their study skills. There are no entry requirements for the course.

Safeguarding Level 2

Date and Time: 7 September 9:30-12:00
Venue: St Martin's Centre, Leicester

Safeguarding Level 2 covers the basics that everybody who works with children, young people and/or families needs to know: how to recognise abuse and neglect and how to make a referral to social services. This session is free to workers from private, voluntary and independent groups based in Leicester City.

Personal Development Training - Fresh Steps

Loughborough University are offering two FREE places to the voluntary sector on a personal development programme called Fresh Steps. The course takes place over three days and looks at identifying personal goals and planning steps to achieve them.

Natwest launches £2.8million fund for charities to attract volunteers

Natwest has launched CommunityForce, a £2.8million grant fund to help local charities raise the publicity of their work and attract volunteers.

158 CommunityForce areas have been set up, including seven in the East Midlands, and each will offer three local projects the chance to win an award of £6,000 each. An online public vote on Natwest's website will decide then which three organisations should receive the awards.

Neighbourhood Learning for Deprived Communities

The Neighbourhood Learning for Deprived Communities grants fund is now open for applications. Applications are invited from organisations able to reach under-represented groups and individuals, widen participation through offering Information, Advice and Guidance and ensure quality training and progression into voluntary work, jobs and leadership roles in communities. Learners must reside in the identified multi-access areas of the city.
