This weekly update provides voluntary and community groups with the latest news, opportunities and upcoming events.

News update for Groups facing possible Public Sector Funding Cuts

Groups who are or are facing the possibility of funding cuts are being invited to a meeting on 13 April held by Voluntary Action LeicesterShire and the County Council.

The meeting wil give groups a chance to find out more information and gain advice and suport on how VAL can help. The Council will also be giving clairfication around possible cuts and the rationale behind them.

Digital Activists Tackling Technology Near You

The first of the Digital Activists for Leicester have now finished their community engagement focussed training on ‘How to be a Digital Activist'.

The DAIN Digital Activists will be volunteering their services around Leicester City in a Drop-In Session capacity. They will have laptops, net books and digital camcorders to show you.

The Goodwin Volunteer Doula Project is a successful project from Hull that is looking for partner organisations to role out its service to other areas. It is a project that supports women during pregnancy and the early weeks of family life. Capital and Revenue funding is available to support Leicester City Council's transformation of short breaks for disabled children. Grants are available to Voluntary and Community Sector Groups who must have a constitution (a set of rules and management committee)

Discounted dental treatment

NHS Leicester City is running a special offer for £10 off dental treatment charges at appointments taking place until 31 March 2010. This means a check up at a participating NHS dentist in the city will cost as little as £6.50. All patients need to do is present a voucher that can be obtained free by calling 0116 295 7017.
