Would any of your volunteers like to use the email/internet but are unsure how to get started? Voluntary Action LeicesterShire in conjunction with Cooke-E Learning are running some starter sessions for volunteers and staff who would like the confidence to get started but need a helping hand.

Free training for groups

Course: Customer Service for Voluntary Organisations
Date: 14 September to 30 November, South Leicestershire College, City Campus

This ten week course aims to prepare relatively new staff/volunteers working in reception, administration, volunteering, contact centre or sales roles. The course involves three hours' college attendance week and covers: recognising good and poor practice, first impressions and body language, communicating clearly and managing difficult situations. The course leads to a qualification at level one.

Free training for organisations who are thinking of setting up a mentoring and befriending scheme

Neighbourhood Learning for Deprived Communities

Leicester City Council are inviting applications from Voluntary and Community Sector organisations who wish to offer pre-employment and vocational training activities.

Training providers must be able to offer a safe, healthy and supportive environment, employ recruitment processes that comply with the law and ensure that vulnerable adults are protected. Beneficiaries must be within one of Leicester city's priority areas and grants of up £5,000 are available.

Grants of up to £2,000 for environment projects. Closing date: 29 August.

The Green Insurance Company is offering grants of up to £2,000 to help your local community become more environmentally-friendly.

Grants of up to £10,000 must be spent within one year and can be spent on capital expenditure, training and website development.

All applications must be discussed with NetSolutions Wales and supported by a quote from them.

Rayne Fellowships for Refugees (Grants for Individuals wanting to set up a community project)

Grants for individual refugees with a "big idea". £15,000 available for personal development. Apply by 03 September 2010.

Fellowships enable individuals of a refugee background to be supported with a resource fund of £15,000 to help grow their 'big idea'. This could be in sport, culture, social enterprise or anything that supports development in your community.

Institute for Volunteering Research launches new evidence bank

The Institute for Volunteering Research, the research arm of Volunteering England, has today launched a new evidence bank for volunteering research.

This searchable database is free to use and accessible to everyone. It is home to all publicly available Institute for Volunteering Research (IVR) reports and publications produced since 1997. It also contains articles from the Voluntary Action Journal published between 1998 and 2007.
