VALUES info for carers
VALUES makes it easy for people with a learning disability to volunteer. Our aim is to offer support and guidance to people with learning disabilities living in Leicester City who want to volunteer.
We help people with learning disabilities to:
- Achieve greater independence
- Increase their self confidence
- Learn new skills
- Make friends
- Get involved in voluntary community activities
- Feel a sense of being useful and having a role in the community
Who is involved in VALUES?
Currently there are 60 volunteers with a learning disability working in 42 different organisations giving 7,000 hours per year of their time to charities in Leicester.
Types of Voluntary work available
The sort of voluntary work undertaken varies, but includes:
- Serving up or washing up in lunch clubs
- Helping out in a Charity Shop
- Mucking out at The City Farm doing clerical work such as mail outs or photocopying
- Delivering leaflets
- Gardening
Other benefits for volunteers
VALUES volunteers can be involved in our:
- Social committee which sets up social events
- Press team which produces its own newsletter
- Steering committee elected by and from the volunteers that helps to direct the project
- VALUES Youth a project to help young people aged 15 or over to volunteer
- VALUES Employment, a project to help people with a learning disability find paid employment.
