Working with Volunteers

Aims

To provide volunteer managers with the tools to maximise volunteer retention through developing good application, induction and support procedures. This session is part of the ‘Keeping Volunteers' training offered by Voluntary Action LeicesterShire.

At the end of the workshop participants will have:

  • Discussed and described what an organisation needs to include in its induction process for new volunteers
  • Identified ways in which they can recognise and reward volunteers
  • Described what is meant by support and supervision and how this can be provided effectively to volunteers
  • Developed strategies to offer volunteers in their organisation the opportunity to develop, in order to maximise volunteer retention
  • Listed the reasons why people stop volunteering and learned how exit strategies enable the organisation to learn from experience

Duration of session:

The session is two hours long although it can be tailored to the personal needs of your group at the agreement of the trainer.

This session is part of VAL's ‘core training' offer. Core training is available to voluntary and community sector groups free of charge at a venue of your choosing. You will be required to cover the cost of your venue and any refreshments you require on the day. VAL also require a minimum number of ten people on any session.
